General Questions

Licensing & Legitimacy

How do I know if a mover is legitimate?
You must check the licensing of every moving company you are considering. You want to use a licensed and insured company to ensure that your move goes smoothly. Asher Movers is fully licensed, insured, and DOT certified.
How can I check a moving company’s licensing and insurance?
To check a moving company or broker’s licenses, insurance, safety data and other services related to the transportation industry, please visit safer.fmcsa.dot.gov. Make sure to have the company’s DOT or MC number ready when you visit.
Why should I use a moving company instead of a broker?
Moving brokers act as middlemen between you and the moving company. Brokers do not do the actual moving — they typically do not own trucks or equipment, or have a professional moving staff. A moving company like Asher Movers has its own trucks and employs professional movers to perform your move directly.
How do I know that a moving company is reputable?
Check the company’s record with the Better Business Bureau at bbb.org. You can see when the company was established and check its rating. We recommend only using companies with an A rating that have been in business for at least 5 years. A poor BBB rating can be a red flag showing the company does little to resolve customer complaints.
What about review sites?
Reviews on social media sites should be taken with a grain of salt as they cannot always be verified. Anyone can post any type of review for a company. We encourage you to check verified platforms like Google and the BBB for the most accurate picture of a company’s reputation.

Estimates & Pricing

Getting a Quote

Why do I need an estimate?
An estimate helps you understand the moving costs ahead of time and avoid any surprises on moving day. Always make sure to receive a written estimate. When comparing prices from different companies, ensure you are using only an A-rated BBB company and that all estimates are based on the same size shipment.
What do you need to know to offer a basic moving quote?
To receive an accurate quote we first need to know where you are moving from and to. For local moves, we need the number of bedrooms and rooms. For state-to-state moves, we need an inventory list of items that do not fit into a box and an estimated number of boxes.
What do you need to know to offer a complete moving quote?
In addition to the size of the move we need to know:

  • If there are stairs involved at origin and destination
  • If you need packing services
  • If you have specialty items like pianos, chandeliers, grandfather clocks, etc.
  • If we can park the moving truck in front of your home at origin and destination
What should I expect to pay for local moving services?
Local moves are charged at an hourly rate, and the final cost depends on the time it takes to complete the move. There are two payments:

  • A deposit to schedule the moving truck and crew
  • Final payment after the movers finish placing your items in your new home
What should I expect to pay for long-distance moving services?
For long-distance moves, your quote is guaranteed based on your inventory list and the distance between pickup and delivery. There are three payments:

  • A deposit to schedule the move
  • Payment at the pickup location
  • Final payment upon arrival at the destination

Long Distance Moves

Inventory & Cubic Foot Rate

Why is charging by inventory for long distance moves better?
Some companies charge based on the weight of the shipment — they weigh the truck before and after loading. Since furniture cannot be weighed beforehand, the estimate is often inaccurate. Our approach is simpler: you provide a list of items to be moved, and we guarantee the price for that list. No guessing the weight of your furniture.
Why do you need an inventory for a long-distance move?
We calculate our price based on your inventory. This allows us to give you a guaranteed price before we begin the move. The price will only change if you add items to your moving list.
What is a guaranteed rate per cubic foot? (Long distance only)
A guaranteed rate per cubic foot allows you to add items on moving day without penalty fees. The rate stays the same — no surprise charges. If additional items appear on moving day, you can add them to the shipment at the same rate or replace something else without increasing the total cost.
Why is guaranteed rate per cubic foot important? (Long distance only)
Some competitors charge additional rates for extra items or space on moving day — these charges can be as high as 250% more than the original rate. With our guaranteed cubic foot rate, there is no penalty fee for adding items to your shipment.
